The life of a professional artist or any other kind of creative entrepreneur is getting more and more competitive online. One way to stand out from the pack is to simply: show your face. I felt like my website, social media accounts were missing something. It was ME! I am my brand and everything I create, yet I had 0 pictures of me on my own website. That’s why I wanted to share my artist photo shoot ideas you can try at home.
Bored At Home
Luckily my wonderful talented boyfriend, Chris, is not only an artist but also a professional photographer and producer. (But don’t just take my word for it, feel free to check out his art at Higher Blend. ) He was wonderful enough to take some art studio pics for me.
If your boyfriend or girlfriend isn’t a photographer with a big camera, your friends and their iPhones are just as great! You might have to beg, but I’m sure they are willing to help you succeed on your creative entrepreneur journey. All you have to do is ask. If you don’t have anyone to ask? Then selfie mode that beast. When there’s a will there’s a way.
It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. I had mine taken during Covid-19 so we had A LOT of time on our hands. I even made an inspiration board and had a list of shots I wanted Chris to take. So yeah, A LOT of free time. Some couples spend all day watching tv, we spend all day doing a photo shoot.
First things first, everyone needs a “headshot”. People like having a “face to the name.” Letting your followers, customers, (or whomever it might be,) see who you are, makes them feel more comfortable buying from you. If you’re on social media or have a website, you’ll want to add a photo of yourself. Why not spruce it up and include a photo or two of you!?!
*Pro Tip: If you don’t have a website I HIGHLY recommend getting one… like yesterday! 😉
Dress to Impress
Treat it like an actual photoshoot. What does that mean? Outfit changes! If you’re someone like me, who likes expressing themselves through their clothing style, then you’ll have fun with this! Wear that favorite outfit that you never get to wear because you’re always painting, crafting, etc.
Weapons of Mass Creation
This is where your photos can get a little more personalized. Grab the tool that you create with. It could be a paintbrush, camera, iPad, computer, guitar. The list goes on and on…
Don’t forget about some shots of you in action, doing what you love!
Like my art? Check out my online shop. (I’m also on Etsy.)
Dog Parent Life
This is where your photos get more personalized. Grab the tool that you create with. Could be a paintbrush, camera, iPad, computer, guitar, the list goes on and on… & most importantly have fun with it. Let the goofy, dork out.
Speaking of dogs… I specialize in painting custom pet portraits. So I felt like I had to do another photo shoot theme.
If that tickled your fancy, feel free to learn more about commissioning your own hand-paint pet portrait.
